Works Progress Administration Painting "White House" Recovered

Yesterday, U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) Boston-based special agents recovered a Works Progress Administration (WPA) oil painting entitled "White House" by Stewart Wheeler.

The painting had been listed on eBay by a Waterbury, Connecticut seller when GSA OIG agents received a tip about it.  The painting clearly showed WPA Federal Art Project and U.S. Government property markings. The label on the back of the painting, dated July 28, 1938, noted the painting was once on loan to the office of former Pennsylvania Congressman Michael Bradley.
