National Whistleblower Appreciation Day Statement

On July 30, we join agencies across the federal government in celebrating National Whistleblower Appreciation Day. We recognize the long-standing commitment of federal employees and employees of federal contractors to report fraud, waste, and abuse. By coming forward, whistleblowers improve government operations and strengthen the public’s trust in our institutions.

The General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) values the role that whistleblowers play in government oversight. Whistleblowers demonstrate courage when reporting wrongdoing in the workplace. Today we thank those whistleblowers who, in good faith, step forward to ensure that the federal government is an ethical and safe workplace.

GSA OIG maintains a hotline to receive whistleblower complaints pertaining to fraud, waste, and abuse in GSA programs and operations. Whistleblowers can choose to remain anonymous when reporting to the OIG.

Whistleblowers may contact the GSA OIG Whistleblower Protection Coordinator for general information about their rights under whistleblower protection laws. For more information, please visit our website at www.gsaig.gov/whistleblower

Federal employees may also choose to contact the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) to disclose fraud, waste, and abuse. For more information about making disclosures to OSC or whistleblower protection rights, please visit the OSC’s website at www.osc.gov.
