The General Services Administration Office (GSA) of Inspector General (OIG) and Fine Arts Program (FAP) recently recovered a 1939 Works Progress Administration oil painting, “Snow Covered Marsh” by Archie Tillinghast.
The painting had been listed for sale on eBay last year when an OIG special agent contacted the seller about canceling the auction and holding the painting. The seller agreed, and OIG agents helped the FAP determine that the painting was federal property. OIG agents learned that the seller bought the painting years earlier at an auction.
