Two Pieces of Works Progress Administration Art Recovered

This week, General Services Administration (GSA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) special agents based in San Francisco and New York recovered two Works Progress Administration pieces of art, including a painting, “Landscape” by Theodore Polos, and a print, “Old Mill, Vermont” by Isaac J. Sanger.

Efforts to recover the art began when OIG special agents received tips that the artworks had been listed for sale separately on eBay. In both cases, special agents reached out to the individual sellers regarding the listings and explained GSA OIG’s art recovery project. The sellers each agreed to remove the listings from eBay and voluntarily return the art to the United States.

The GSA’s Fine Art Program will work to find locations to publicly display both pieces of art.
